neck stickyness

Postby bfloyd6969 on Fri Mar 05, 2010 6:41 pm

Anyone else have a problem with the back of the neck getting a sticky feeling after a bit of time. I noticed this on all three of my dreads. At first I thought it was just the oils in my hands but it only happened on my A & L's and not my Yamaha's, which also have matte finished necks. I've been using steel wool to get rid of the stickyness but was just curious if anyone else had this problem...

it is fairly common on a true nitro style finish, even on gloss finishes as well. I use steel wool and then guitar polish on it and find it holds it for a bit.

Thanks for the reply and tips, huntermb. For a while there I thought I had some kind of acid type oils in my hands, LOL. What type of guitar polish do you find works best - soap based? It is also happening on the guitar tops (satin tops) where my right arm rests on the lower bout. Have any tips for this area?

I think lately I'm using martic guitar polish (it all depends on what the local shop has, I don't have alot of choice where I live). I had the same problem with my arm too and the guitar polish helped some with it. Since I buffed my satin finish on my seagull it has stopped alot of the too. I don't know what else to use on that one.

Keep us updated if you find any other really good fixes for this, as I know it is a fairly common problem.
